Maybe it has happened over time or maybe its always been like this, I am not sure. People are trying to obtain material possessions and community status to make themselves happy. They are spending the majority of time on how they look to others. I was guilty of this myself, only concerned with appearances until I had all the things I wanted and still was not fulfilled. It was a real wake up call to realize being successful and having lots of stuff does not bring true happiness. The ego it seems is winning in this world we live in. We have forgotten the spiritual side of ourselves. How did this happen? Is it the media that has shown us that this is how we are suppose to be, thin, wealthy with lots of worldly possessions and them we will be happy? Do we feel we have to conform and be like everybody else? As a society we are not nice to each other. I see this bad behavior everywhere. People just aren’t considerate of each other. Family gossiping about family, friends stabbing each other in the back and bullying and shootings in schools. There is so much negative energy caused by our inflated ego’s. It’s like everything is a competition. Don’t get me wrong I like to win too but the winning and the stuff only makes you happy for a short time. There is no substance in money and things, so as time passes in your life you may start to search for something to fulfill the empty space. What you are looking for is Love. Love is who we really are.
The ego sees love as something that comes from outside itself. It see’s the energy of love as something that needs to be conquered or won. The ego views love as a weapon of power used in order to gain control over others. True love for each other has no expectations. It is given freely and received freely. No expectations, no reward, just love.
One of my favorite scriptures in the Bible is 1 Corinthians13: 4-13. These words were written thousand of years ago have always made a huge impression on me, so I wanted to share these verses with you. As the world has become so fast paced and superficial these verses really makes you think a little differently. Maybe they will change your life!
Love is patient, love is kind. Its does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. it does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves. Love never fails. but where there are prophecies, they will cease: where there are tongues, they will be stilled: where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love…………..
