As people go about their busy daily lives they seem to focus on what they need to accomplish and do not take the time to be kind to one another. I see it all the time. While driving on the expressway, folks do not let each other in when they are trying to merge to the next lane of traffic, just a moment of kindness would be nice. What if the car trying to merge is a new driver who is inexperienced ? When you are not kind enough to allow them in they will do the same to the next person. They are learning not to ne kind while behind the wheel.
Have you noticed that when you are at grocery store that the people crossing the street with their food carts almost get run over because the cars are in such a hurry that they do not want to take the time to be kind enough to let them cross? Crazy huh.
Neighbors are not nice to neighbors. Do you go and introduce yourself when a new neighbor moves in? Bring them a cake or just say hello? I do not see the kindness that I saw growing up. It’s like kindness to my fellow man has almost disappeared.
Ephesians 4:32 Reads:
Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Very rarely do you see someone open the door for an elderly person, everyone is so busy looking down at their Phone, texting etc. I often wonder, do they even notice that the person in the wheel chair of the elderly man needs help? What if that was my Dad or yours? How would that make you Feel that no one was kind enough to open the door for him?
Proverbs 11:17 Reads:
A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself.
I always think, there is such a thing as karma. Does this cruel behavior come back to them?
I know life is tough and we are all running around trying to get to work on time, pick up the kids, run that errand make that deadline. But maybe we need to slow down sometimes and just take the time to be kind. Ask the clerk at the store how their day is going, it only takes a second of your precious time. Be kind and let someone go in front of you, be kind. I believe if you are kind to one person a day it will come back to you ten fold !
Tell you wife, husband, boyfriend or girlfriend, sister or brother that they look nice or that you appreciate them. Take out the garbage for your elderly neighbor. Ask a stranger how their day is going. Be kind to the bully at school, maybe they are that way because no one has been kind to them.
My mother used to say “a few kind words goes a long way”. As I get older, I get it. I am not perfect by any means, but I am making an effort to be a kinder person. Make an effort to be kind to someone today, I guarantee it will come back to you!
