Giving Thanks

Do you give thanks everyday?
I always make a conscious effort to give thanks to God, the Universe. I have not always done this. I am much less shallow than I used to be. I think the awareness came over time. I have really made it a regiment to give Thanks. The turning point for me came after watching one of Opera’s shows on gratitude and giving thanks for what you have. The guests on her show really emphasized how really important it is for us as humans to give thanks to the Universe, god, however you pray, on a daily basis. Life can be tough, it defiantly has its ups and downs but overall most people have it pretty good. It really comes down to what you give out is what you get back. So say “Thank You” as often as you can.
Sometimes we get caught up in the craziness of everyday life and forget about the little things.
I think we should all give thanks for good health, food, shelter and water, for close friends, caring parents, nice children and our love relationships. And that’s just the basics.
Think about the place that you call home. We should be thankful if we have a home. A place where we can feel secure. There are allot of homeless people in today’s society. Folks that do not have place to go to lay their head if they are tired.
When I was in my twenties I took a business trip with my boss to New York City. We were in Manhattan. We had just finished dinner at “Mickey Mantels” across from Central Park.(The restaurant shut down last year.) We walked a block or so to shake off the jet leg and came upon a homeless man. He was looking for donations. My boss did not oblige his request. He was a young, strong man. He said to me, “I bet you have never been hungry before?”. Wow, that was quite harsh. I did not know what to say. I just looked at him. But he made me think. No, I had never gone hungry before. What would that be like? It also made me wonder why this young strong man was begging?
In these hard economic times that we live in today I have seen many humbled people. Seems that folks have learned to appreciate the simple things in life. To me this is a blessing.
Remember to Give Thanks for the good in your Life
